In the Varsity Blues scandal involving parents paying sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars to fraudulently get their children into exclusive universities, the evidence gathered by prosecutors included an email from a father who wrote about devising a “road map for success” for his daughter “and getting her into a school other than ASU.” As the president of ASU – Arizona State University – I’d like to take exception to that line on behalf of the many universities that maintain high academic standards but don’t burnish their reputations based on the number of students they can exclude.
