When Dr. Anthony Fauci, America’s superstar infectious disease expert, cast doubt on the re-opening of college campuses during Senate testimony this week, he seemed to be throwing cold water on the plans of the many colleges that have declared that their campuses will be open for business come September. Dr. Fauci’s sober reality check seemed counter to the clarion cry issued by Brown University’s Christina Paxson in an April 26 NY Times opinion piece titled “College Campuses Must Reopen in the Fall. Here’s How We Do It,” and the confident optimism of Purdue’s Mitch Daniels and University of California San Diego’s Pradeep Khosla, who have said their campuses will be open in September.
